About elections

The elections of deputies of the Kurultai of the Republic of Kazakhstan are scheduled for 23 August 2026. The preparation and conduct of the elections are organized by the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Kazakhstan; the Government and local executive bodies provide the necessary organizational, logistical and financial conditions. This is the first election campaign for the elections of deputies of the Kurultai under the renewed Constitution. The Kurultai is the country's supreme representative body exercising legislative power.

145 deputies are elected for a term of five years by party lists in a single nationwide electoral district, on the basis of universal, equal and direct suffrage by secret ballot.

Below is key information on the progress of the campaign: the results of the registration of party lists, the order of the parties on the ballot, the accreditation of international observers, and the preparation of sites for election campaigning.

Registration of party lists

As of 23 July 2026, the party lists of seven political parties have been registered — 545 candidates for 145 seats. The requirements for the representation of women, youth and persons with disabilities have been met by all parties: their combined share in the lists amounts to 43.9%. Among the candidates are 172 women and 373 men, 19 candidates with disabilities and 74 candidates under the age of 35; the average age is 45.4 years.

Order of placement of parties on the ballot

The order of the parties on the ballot was determined by a drawing of lots: 1. "Adilet"; 2. National Social Democratic Party; 3. Kazakhstan Green Party "Baitaq"; 4. People's Party of Kazakhstan; 5. "Auyl" party; 6. Democratic Party of Kazakhstan "Ak Zhol"; 7. "Respublica" party. The results of the drawing of lots are recorded in a protocol of the Central Election Commission.

International observers

Since accreditation opened on 1 July 2026, 96 observers from foreign states and international organizations have been accredited. The procedure and time frames for accreditation are set out in detail in the "Documents" section.

Sites for election campaigning

According to local executive bodies, more than 8 thousand sites have been prepared for the placement of campaign materials, and about 4.5 thousand for meetings of candidates with voters.
